When I arrived at the hotel the lady at the front desk was very friendly but then another guest came up to complain about how nasty her room was so I became worried. Thus- the breakfast and bowling package ended up not being worth the extra amount we paid. Nothing really wrong with the facility, but it wasn't flashy and full of neon lights like the one at home so they weren't impressed. ![]() My kids didn't enjoy the bowling as much as I would have thought. (there are multiple buildings so perhaps others are different. I just missed the ability to sit and take in the sounds of the ocean. It was fun to watch the people in the pool or participating in a contest from our balcony. There is generally music playing at the pool, and on pool party days this music is extra loud. While you can absolutely see the ocean, sitting on the balcony is not quite what I expected. The rooms in my building all overlook the pools- and then the ocean. I have stayed in places with a kitchenette and figured there would only be basic items, but I was expecting a little more. No frying pan (made grilled cheese in a pot □) no pot holders, no paper towels, no salt/pepper. Next time I will only add breakfast for a few days. We got tired of the limited options, even though they were tasty. We had a package that provided breakfast for 2 and I prepaid for 2 more each day. The breakfast buffet is good but it's the same thing every day. next time I will review the activity calendar and plan our stay around when we would get to participate in the most stuff at the resort. The main activity days were Tues, Thurs, and Friday night. The Tuesday pool party was great, and I loved seeing my kids participate in things like a hula hoop contest, lazy river rubber duck race, and dance contest! We watched a magic show while in the pool Things I wish I would have known ahead of time: 1. There was plenty to do without leaving the resort. We were constantly finding ourselves in friendly conversation with someone. The staff seems to enjoy their jobs and the guests are all having a good time. I am a SC native so I am all about southern hospitality but sadly don't expect to actually get it very often. Really close to Broadway, Family Kingdom, 2nd Ave Pier, plus lots of grocery stores, drug stores, and beach shops. You just have to make it across the scorching hot sand dune. My 7 year old loved the water playground, and since she's not a great swimmer I loved that she could play with minimal supervision. All the pools! My 10 year old loved the ability to keep changing pools and lazy rivers. It was a good balance of things to do and ability to relax! Things we loved: 1. We enjoyed our stay and will stay here again next year. There was a error in my reservation but as soon as I brought it to their attention they made it right. We stayed at Captains Quarters Aug 9-14, 2015.
